Lecture:Mr. Vinod starts the day by giving us a general feedback, don’t do things at the very last minute, and don’t ever personal message him on Facebook all the time unless it is necessary, we need to ask our classmate regarding the matter by posting it on the ‘typography group’ in Facebook before referring it to him, according to him we need to take pictures clearly before update it on the e-portfolio. There are about four important things that he taught us during the day, at first he explained again, what the word portfolio is and how it should be done, which is in a PDF form. Presentation of our past work, which is the end result of task two and then he assign us the third task which is about type expression. Again, during the day he explained in more detail about types of font, for instance Serif is actually comprised of three types; which are San serif, display and script and there are few other types of font. Lastly, he explained to us what we need to do for our next task which is a type expression.

Instructions
Type expression (20%) Task 1: Identify 4 words that describe you. You will then express typographically the meaning of these words without the aid of a visual. You are only allowed to manipulate the type to express the inherent meaning of the chosen words.
Draw two 7cm squares on an A4 graph paper using a pencil. Ensure the boxes are centered vertically and horizontally in the A4 paper. Do the same for two other sheets of paper to obtain 4 squares in total.
Draw and express you respective words. Upon approval digitize your artworks using Adobe Illustrator and print them out. Update your eportfolio throughout the task and ensure every aspect of the process is documented methodically.
Marking criteria: Your work will be judged on whether you have been able to capture the meaning or action of the chosen words through your designs. The designed words in the type expression task must showcase sensitivity in balance, proportion and composition. It must reflect the inherent meanings of the words. You will be judged on whether you have demonstrated critical thinking and exploration. This evidence must be visible in your postings in the eportfolio and your in-class process work.

Research :
I did few research before start the process, by referring to youtube, which was very unique and complicated.
Refer to the link below;
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LFjMtfZ42fY
Then i saw few examples based of type expression;

Process:
I did some research regarding the task, especially when i saw Mr. Vinod post on Facebook few examples of type expression, according to him it need to be based of our own personality, obviously I know what type of person I am, but then I still asked my family members about my own personality based if their perception, and the result was the same as my answer for the question. People who is close to me will say that I am a very stubborn person, it takes time for me to listen to others and I like to do things as what i want it to be, they say that I am very talkative, tidy, conservative, brave, independent and few others. However, people who is not close to me will think that I am a shy, silent, soft and not friendly too.
Sketch;
Ideas;
Some of my idea was mostly from the internet, i try to google how does type of expression look like, there are a lot actually and most of it are not a common or standard arrangement of font as what i familiar with.

Most of the font will represent or express the meaning of the word or personality itself, for instance, the word shout means loud or something that really stands out, so the example below shows how does the font or arrangement of the letters look like, it really stands out !
Then, i finally come out with an idea of creating something that represent of express the word itself, refer to the picture below;
Sketch:
(1)
(2) From graph paper ;

(3) Using the calligraphy pen ;

I may make some changes later, but so far this is how it will look like for the moment, I wanted to use all capitals for the word organized, because it look more neat and organized in a such way, hardworking word is the mixture of capital and small letters, for aggressive I am using small letters for all but I just make the middle letters smaller compare to few first and last letter, and lastly for stubborn word, I choose to use a basic style of letter, capital letter for 's' and small letters for the rest.
Feedback:
Mr. Vinod: "Nadia, your composition or arrangement of the words do not really enhance or bring out the meaning of the words you have chosen. If you view the examples I have given you can see it quite clearly enhances the meaning of the words through arrangement. Please rework them after analysing the examples I provided".
Reflection:
Experience;
Personally, I believed that it must be hard for an individual to create such a type expression, because it must be hard to create words that really stand out the meaning. It was actually such a beautiful art.
Observation;
Based on my observation, I need a lot more practice and time in order to come out with something that's unique and simple, a lot more research and practice may help me later in the next step of the task, the result shouldn't be too weird and decorative, as what I always did.
Finding;
I found that, using a non-slanted calligraphy pen is not easy and my final result should be a lot more better than what i did so far, hopefully I can figure out something that a lot more better later.
